For us, the best source of new clients is a client we have previously represented. That client can tell you what sort of firm we are and how we handled his or her case. When you go to choose an attorney it is always good to talk to people whom the attorney has previously represented. Of course, no attorney can make everyone happy, but if you talk to several people you should get a good idea about the attorney. Find out if the attorney you are considering normally handles cases like yours. If your case may involve a trial, find out how many trials the attorney has actually handled and what the results have been. In your first interview with the attorney, find out what sort of person he or she is. Is she polite and courteous? Is he or she genuinely concerned about you as a person and interested in your case or only interested in you as a source of fees? Does the attorney listen to you or do all the talking? Does the attorney genuinely seem to value your opinions or just try to bulldoze you? Whenever I do business with anyone I like to know what sort of person he or she is. Does he or she have roots in the community or is someone just passing through? What sort of civic organizations does he or she belong to? Does the person support the cause of liberty, justice and constitutional freedom, as I do? |
